Bubu is a sushi bar in the Fillmore, now at 1800 Fillmore St, at Sutter, in a space it shares with Nono Baru. It moved here from its original home at 2417 California St, after its happy hour outgrew the smaller room.
Sushi and happy hour
Bubu is best known for its happy hour, with sashimi, hand rolls, sake and “bubus,” crispy rice topped with spicy tuna, hamachi or salmon, at a low fixed price. The regular menu has omakase nigiri, uni and ikura, snow crab hand rolls, walu sashimi, spicy butterfish and rainbow rolls.
The spot draws a crowd on weekday evenings, so arrive early for happy hour. The takeout sushi shop at 2417 California St is a separate business.
